This Diwali gift some Light!

Diwali (or Deepawali if you call it so) is around and I was wondering what a nice Deepavali Present can be for the family friends we’re going to visit that evening. Wanted to gift something that would remind the bright and happy moments we have on Diwali.

First, we thought of sweets, fire-crackers or some combination gifts sold everywhere for Diwali. But then, it appeared far too common thing to gift during Deepavali. Even corporates and clients give these usual stuffs to employees before Diwali. Ours should be a unique Diwali gift for family (a married couple actually).

Then we wondered, “what about some gift cards?”. Well, that seemed like gifting cash; and we seriously didn’t like that for friends.

Suddenly, I stumbled upon something that was in the background of a picture in Facebook. It was a floor light looking up. And everyone liked the idea of gifting some sort of indoor lighting decor. With a prime account, we started scouring through the internet for items that can be delivered to us in a day so that we can take it to friends’ place the next evening. Here’re some items we looked at (and bought some for us as well).

How’bout Colorful String Lights

Every other shop was selling those twinkling and running string lights: white, multi-color, warm, color-changing, what not! And you can never have too much of these. Even if you have got a few of these at home, additional ones will definitely add extra spark to the evenings. And more over that, these can be used across various functions, festivals and even as an everyday decor on the wall. We even thought of gifting this in a bottle for that unique effect.

Kids would love these string LED lights permanently set in their room. Would be a great accessory for teenagers in hostel as well.
Well, we ended up buying these for ourselves. Now, here’s what we bought for the friends:

Up-light Lamps and Floor Lights

Choosing the right up-light was a giant task. We decided to find one very similar to the one we saw in the picture earlier. Looked at a lot of similar ones in Flipkart and Amazon. Most of those did not seem to be a good value for money.

Another thought was the light should be easy and quick to set up. We would ideally want the light to be usable right after we arrive for Diwali. So we wanted something that did not need extra wiring, any fixtures on the wall and one that would come with a bulb.

We shortlisted few of those upward-facing lights and a few floor-lights as well. The floor-lights were all made of cotton shade and did not seem like a good idea from a longevity point of view. Finally, we settled on this!

[Note that this did not come with a bulb. But we found an awesome smart bulb at a very cheap price on Amazon. And that changes colors!]
