While there are manual, spring-operated ones, the one I have used recently is battery operated and hence you don’t have to manually rotate anything. Just put two AA batteries and that’s it. The rotates slowly enough for the baby to give full attention. And there are about 100 different soft musical melody tunes that play one after the other. The replicas appear to be of bad quality plastic and may not have the same features. For example, I was not sure if the cheaper copy-cat version was safe enough for the baby to chew.

Watch out: Batteries are not included in any of these toys. So, if you’re buying it for gifting purposes, make sure you also buy two AA batteries so that the parents don’t have to go out buying the batteries.
